Due to the ongoing pandemic, HMRC has extended the deadline for submitting outstanding returns. It is now 28 February 2022. Prior to this date, no penalty will be charged.
Returns received after this date will result in a late return and potential daily penalties. Unless you can provide a reasonable excuse.
Payment date still stands
Be careful though. HMRC has not postponed the payment date. If you make the payment when you submit your return you will still be charged interest on the balance from 31 January 2022.
Payments on account
Equally, interest will be due on any payments on account which were postponed and became due on 31 January 2021 and 31 July 2021.
