Senior manager Rachael Wilson certainly made a splash. She took on Swim for Dementia and raised almost £450 for Alzheimer’s Society!
Across the UK, some 900,000 people currently live with dementia. There’s no cure. Until then, Alzheimer’s Society provides support to everyone affected. The challenge struck a chord with Rachael, as a family member lives with dementia.
Swim for Dementia is a national fundraising initiative. Participants commit to swimming 10 miles in 30 days. Rachael opted to swim at Stafford Leisure Centre. It meant completing 644 lengths of the 25m pool!
Although Rachael swims in her spare time, she knew that sound preparation would be vital. Consequently, she put in some extra training. However, the biggest challenge was pacing the swims. Rachael drew up a plan, but soon discarded it. Due to family activities and business commitments getting back on track was difficult. Success hinged on the final pool session. Totting up some 64 lengths Rachael completed Swim for Dementia.
Congratulations to Rachael on an excellent achievement! Thanks to family, friends, colleagues and clients for their support. If you’d like to donate, it’s not too late. Just head to Rachael’s Just Giving page.
